Could You Imagine Not Being a "Tiger Guy"?

We’re just a few days removed from what I think is the greatest sports moment in history. Tiger Woods won his 5th green jacket and 15th major championship overall after a long road back to golf. In the last 10 years, he went through a cheating scandal, a DUI charge, and multiple surgeries to fix his broken body. Before this win, Tiger hadn’t won a major in 11 years, so many had thought his best golf was behind him. Now the point of this article isn’t to discuss his comeback or anything. It’s to highlight the insanity and absurdity of people who don’t consider themselves a “Tiger Guy.” A Tiger guy is simply somebody who roots for Tiger and throughout his layoff, defended him as if you had a personal connection to him because you were so offended that somebody could fade the G.O.A.T. Here’s a decent example.

Did you read that? “Doesn’t do anything for me like it does others”… What a wild statement. Now in his defense, I will say at the time we had Patrick Cantlay at 66/1 and he was making a late charge up the leaderboard and really gave us false hope that we’d cash a massive ticket. However, he crumbled and of course Tiger Woods came out on top. It was so naive for people to say Tiger Woods isn’t back. He came back after not playing competitive golf for 2 years. Actually, closer to 3 because he was playing with his fucked up back before he decided to get the surgery. This guy sits out for 3 years and everybody forgets how good he was. When he won his majors, he was like +120 and 2/1. To have that short of odds in a field of 100 golfers is ridiculous... it was basically a formality at that point. He didnt swing for 2 years. Granted were not elite high end golfers but whats your swing like once you come back from Winter? I think I shoot over 100 each time after winter. Now quadruple that much time. But as much people that drool over Tiger Woods and think he’s a god of some sort, there's also a large group of individuals that feel the opposite. They can’t get passed the cheating scandal and DUI charges. They don’t believe he’ll catch Jack Nicklaus or ever surpass him as the greatest of all time. But could you imagine being a Tiger hater and not being able to bask in this moment?
If “The return to glory” call from Jim Nantz doesn’t give you goosebumps you aren’t human. Sure this guy fucked around with some chicks and did some weird shit with them that made it sound like he was the creepiest man alive but what a redemption story. Infidelity’s tough. In noway do I support it but in a most of cases, a comeback story isn’t over a period of time like this. We see NFL players in domestic abuse stories or baseball players who take steroids get forgiven and a second chance after a year or two. The cheating scandal that shook Tiger Woods world was in 2009. His fall from grace and comeback has taken 10 years. This man was on the top of the world and then lost everything. His family, his sponsors, respect from the public and now, he’s back at the top nearly a decade later. Boy I can't wait to see his pass Jack.
P.S Here are some more Tiger haters. All time smirk in this video from my guy Eldrick.
