Kentucky Derby Reaction: Ben and I Don't Deserve This...

The 145th running of the Kentucky Derby wasn’t too kind this year. In relation to gambling, Ben got fucked and I got blue balls. Pretty graphic yes, but realistically, still a mild response to what just happened to us. If you tuned into the Kentucky Derby, you watched Maximum Security wire the field with long shot Country House running a strong second at 65/1. Neither of us had Country House in the exotics but Ben loved the 7 horse from the very beginning. He bet $100 on it to win and going off at 9/2, that’s one hell of a ticket. Five minutes later, after a jockey interview, a trainer interview and a history lesson on Maximum Security, the red light began to flash. In horse racing, the red light is a nightmare.
When the light blinks, it means there’s a stewards inquiry. An Inquiry is when the officials take a look at the race to make sure a horse didn’t breach any of the rules of racing. Basically ensuring that the horse won fair and square. I’m not gonna go into much detail on the situation in the race because I’m sure there will be a heated discussion about this on next weeks No Eligibility episode, but long story short the 7 horse was disqualified. Ben’s $500 dollar ticket? Gone like a fart in the wind. I couldn’t think of a guy less deserving for this to happen to than Ben.
In awe of what just happened, I saw in the bottom left the new final horse results. It read, 20-13-8-5. That’s gotta be a joke right? If you read my Derby preview, I talked up all three of those horses. The 13 Code of Honor, the 8 Tacitus, and the 5 Improbable were wired in all of our suggested bets. To make things worse, Code of Honor closed at 14-1. With a price like that on top, we’re looking at thousands of dollars of winnings. But of course, some little French fuck rode a 65-1 shot like he was an even money favorite and ended up taking home the 145th edition of the Kentucky Derby.
What did Ben and I do to deserve this? Probably a lot to be honest but that still doesn’t mean you fuck with our money. That’s the one grey area in all of life conflicts. Gambling is hard enough. Now we have to contend with horse disqualifications and 65-1 shots beating us? What a disaster. This will sting for a long time.
