It’s early and most of you are getting ready for work in the morning. A little shower and if you leave early enough maybe even a quick Starbucks run. What a model citizen you are. Not me. I’m studying the board looking for any weak numbers I can jump on before the sharps hit them. Here’s what I love.
LSU vs. Mississippi State (-3) 8 PM on ESPN
A game between two of the SEC’s best teams is expected to be close throughout. In a game that go can either way, I look elsewhere. Give me Over 155. Both these teams have very efficient offenses (LSU 17th & Mississippi St. 20th) according to Kenpom. What I like to see with a high total is the ability for a team to score on the road. LSU does this great. In their last 5 road games, LSU averages 82.2 points per game. And if they aren’t hitting their shots I’m not too worried. LSU is 19th at Free Throws attempted per game which should bode well for the total by getting points with the clock stopped. It also helps that both these teams aren’t afraid to get in a track meet and push the pace.
PICK: OVER 155
Creighton vs. Villanova (-9) 6 PM on CBSSN
I love the home team here. Villanova at The Palestra is the closest thing to an auto bet that exists. The Wildcats have won their last three games at home by double-digits and are a healthy 8-2 against the spread in their last 10. On the other hand, Creighton has been flat in most of their road games this year. With loses at St. Johns (15), Butler (15), and Oklahoma (13), I expect the home team to cruise here. It doesn’t hurt that Villanova beat Creighton on the road by 12 earlier this year either.
PICK: Villanova -9
