Finally one of the two major free agents in baseball have signed. Manny Machado has agreed to a deal with the San Diego Padres. Once again, a team comes late to the party, throws out a bunch of money, and leaves with the hottest item in the building.

As a White Sox fan, let me start off by saying Jerry Reinsdorf may be the worst owner in sports. He gave the entire Southside of Chicago blue balls and should honestly consider resigning. For months he has talked about landing either Bryce Harper or Manny Machado. All but guaranteeing he would get at least one of them. For a franchise that has been irrelevant for years, this news was groundbreaking. We all started to think about him pairing with rising stars Michael Kopech, Yoan Moncada, Eloy Jimenez and so forth. White Sox fans finally had a reason to smile.

Not anymore. Once the media caught wind on the White Sox offer to Machado, it was laughs throughout the industry. A 100 loss team, went and low-balled a superstar. Our first offer was 7 years, $175 million. As seen above, he just signed for $300 million. We were $125 million away from what Mchado ended up accepting. Are you serious? Reinsdorf took a risk after seeing the market value wasn’t as high for Machado and you can bet on the entire White Sox fan base letting him hear about it.

Live look at Jerry Reinsdorf.

P.S. To Manny Machado,

Welcome to San Diego, it’s a great city. I too burned Chicago to move out here and have no regrets. I actually have a spare bedroom so if you can’t find a house for awhile, you can sublet it from me. I know you have the money for it.
