Move This Kid to the Top of Draft Boards

I’ll be honest straight out of the gate. I don’t watch college baseball a lot, but given the current time of sports, there wasn’t much else on T.V. So after flipping through every channel imaginable, something caught my eye. It read, “College Baseball: Illinois vs. Coastal Carolina.” Now why is that compelling? Rumors travel and the whispers say Illinois’ baseball team has this reliever that on some nights resembles a young Mariano Rivera. On the contrary, some see a more Bobby Jenks or Fernando Rodney type player.

Whatever he is, last night was the full Mariano Rivera treatment. By no means am I a “scout.” However, at recess in middle school I was usually a captain and given the responsibility of picking my team. More often than not, my team was victorious which makes me believe that I have a sharp eye for talent. So when I say this, take it with a grain of salt but just know my backyard football history. Quinten Sefcik has some nasty shit.

Holy fuck. How about that pitching clinic. Kid’s painting the corners with fastballs and breaking balls. Could you imagine stepping up to the plate looking at this guy? Fogged up glasses and a ski cap… before the first pitch you’ve already lost. If I had the first pick of the 2019 MLB Draft I wouldn’t look any further than Illinois’ Quinten Sefcik. He also seems like a great fit to be the guy who beams the opponent in the head to get his teammates fired up. Don’t look now, but if Sefcik continues to put together innings like this, he’ll be mixing it up in the Minors for years to come!
